ZANINI'S PIZZERIA

09.11.11

Zanini’s is a long established, truly authentic Italian pizzeria nestled in the Elwood Village restaurant precinct.

With an existing space that was best described as purely functional, Zanini’s approached Studio Equator to redesign their pizzeria and give it a completely new look. We needed to create an atmosphere that was comfortable, family-friendly, and which maintains Zanini’s Italian heritage.

We used a warm color palette of predominantly orange, gold and bronze tones to create a friendly and inviting atmosphere.

We overhauled the entire counter space, and integrated a new pizza oven to compliment the new look. The oven was cladded with a spectacular mix of colored and decorated tiles, making the wood fire oven Zanini’s central feature.

This design element was extended onto the counter for consistency.

We decided to keep most of the existing brick walls, and enhanced them with artfully framed photographs of iconic Italian scenes to create ambience, and remind customers of Zanini’s Italian heritage.

The feature wall was cladded in random sized pieces of green-stained timber. The green colour, which sits opposite to the warmer colors on the chromatic wheel, creates an eye-catching focal point for the space.

For a point of difference, Studio Equator installed two types of customised light fixtures: industrial-type metal pipe lighting, and rustic pendant lights made from barrel halves.

The result offered Zanini’s a stylish yet effective space in which to grow their business and reap great return on design investment.
