QUIRK LIVING

15.06.12

Studio Equator was engaged to create a visual identity and store proposition for a new retail furniture business called MQ Interiors.

Studio Equator assessed the site for the new store and the product range and immediately made the recommendation to change the name to Quirk Living (Quirk being the proprietors surname). This instantly complimented the intention for a unique quirky design and larger brand proposition. Adding 'Living' to Quirk also serves to emphasise the homewares offering.

The identity created was simple, punchy and easy to manage in black and white. An abstract geometric Q was chosen and cleverly used throughout the stationery, either in a bold context or a cutout which is representational of a viewfinder, as a way to see the world and the Quirk Living Furniture in a 'quirky way'.

Secondary graphic elements were created using many different styles of Q's and by using various typefaces as a translator to a particular aesthetic period, e.g. modern font for modern furniture, etc

The identity was implemented across a variety of applications for the retail business including letterheads, business cards, receipt books, price swing-tags, stamps and signage.

Studio Equator also designed a shopfront and custom joinery which included a counter and sales stand to compliment and ensure flow from outside to the interior. The simplicity of black ply was used as the main finish for the shopfront, along with a large glass area, again framed by the 'Q' to ensure the product on display was always the hero and is viewed in the 'Quirk way'.

Simplicity and a sophisticated nature give Quirk Living a unique selling proposition in the Northcote shopping precinct making raving fans of their customers in the local community.
