The brothers who conceived of this groovy desert bar and boutique chocolateria wanted to create a strong and highly individual brand to help carve themselves a unique niche in the already cluttered retail environment.
studio equator's branding concept was based on Planet Hollywood and intended to draw subliminal parallels in customer's minds. Graphics were created based on iconic Hollywood characters such as Audrey Hepburn, Willy Wonka, Alice in Wonderland and King Kong. The visual identity was created to be fun and interactive with no two applications the same, thus an illustrative aesthetic emerged which was adaptable to all challenges but still consistent overall.
The Planet Chocolate identity has been successfully applied to a store roll out strategy and a string of franchises are now in the making.
With the identity and visual graphics speaking volumes, the finishes for the kiosk interiors was originally designed to melt and blend in with the signage and visual applications. Glazing is used to create the illusion of soft liquid chocolate, and the curved edges of signage, tables and bench tops complements the Planet Chocolate identity.
The first kiosks in Southland and Highpoint used basic pink stone and Corian finishes and large panels of graphics, giving a fun candy-land appearance, however upon opening in Doncaster shopping centre, centre requirements demanded higher quality finishes including some timber finishes, and a restriction on the amount of graphics used.
With these guidelines, studio equator created a counter from Caesar stone, complemented by eco-timber trimmings, pink mirror and smaller panels of the Planet Chocolate trademark graphics. The result was a perfect balance of style and fun has now become a standard for future franchises.
