ELIZABETH FOOD COURT

30.09.07

Elizabeth shopping centre in Adelaide was originally a prime development by Gandel Group, now known as Colonial First State Property Management.  studio equator was appointed as the main design consultant for the food court development, which included 24 food outlets and an external café / bar / restaurant.

The challenge was to design individual brands - some existing and some new - to present a distinctively different look and feel for each tenancy, but ensure each remained consistent in quality, in line with the landlord's guidelines and cohesive as a whole.  Studio Equator's strategy was to create a set of rules and guidelines that allowed for the necessary versatility and personality that each tenant required while presenting the aesthetic consistency needed by the landlord.

Colour, super graphics and interesting finishes were used to divide each tenancy and give each a direct point of difference from each other.  The height of the ceiling was maintained, however the de-clutter of 3D elements in this space was also used as a strategy to open the space up.  The result  is an open, visually interesting area which is clean, contemporary and spacious.
