BAR & GRILL BY ZEST89
Zest89 Bar & Grill is a quality steakhouse located in the busy Glen Waverly restaurant precinct. With an existing cafe operating on the ground floor, the owners of Zest89 wanted to turn the cafe's 2nd floor into a venture which complimented their existing business. The result was Zest89 Bar & Grill.
Adopting a minimalistic approach, Studio Equator's design strategy was to effectively utilise the long, narrow space with long counter style serving. The floor was divided into three key areas: the bar, an open dining space situated near large windows which overlooked the main street, and a more private function area.
Large-scale concrete tiles on the walls, natural timber counters, floorboards and wall cuttings gave a polished, minimalist finish to the space. These finishes were contrasted with hand-painted door panels influenced by the owners' Shri Lankan heritage. The panels were hand painted and prepared by Studio Equator. The intent was to use the aesthetic language typically used by steakhouses, but to push it in imaginative ways to create a relaxed and casual dining experience suitable for the Suburbs.
Studio Equator also designed a graphics package for Zest89 Bar & Grill, which included: naming, logo and letterhead, stationary, wall murals and other graphics used inside the space.
