24 Moons is a cocktail bar nestled in ACDC Lane off Flinders Lane, between Russel and Exhibition Streets. It is in arguably one of the hippest areas in Melbourne; the Flinders Lane design district, which is known for its mishmash of cobbled laneways, elite restaurants, street art and galleries. 24 Moons gets it's name from the fact it has only a 24 month lease on the premises, starting October 2009.
The Directors of this chic bar wanted to create the feeling and mood of a forest within the space, and appointed studio equator to create an identity, logo, signage and website based on this concept. Imagine you are in a forest clearing, its night-time, and the moon is full. Moonlight washes the surrounding forest, and you can make out the trunks of trees, their branches and foliage. As you gaze up, you see the crowns of the trees in relief against the moonlit sky.
To keep with the moon theme, the logo was created by incorporating braggadocio typeface housing an image of shadowed moon. As the exterior signage of the premises is heritage listed, this logo had to be adapted vertically to fit the existing sign. Night forest scenes were used in a light box format for both this exterior sign, and four interior windows.
A very simple website was developed using the same forest graphics and an intriguing audio track to recreate the mood of the venue online.
