Companies harness the power of the funky workplace to retain staff & boost innovation. News Limited writes about our work done for Acquire Learning’s New Melbourne Hub
JUST because they’re designed to work in doesn’t mean office spaces have to be boring.
Acquire Learning group managing director John Wall says positive workspace is important for students, too.
The new Acquire Hub in Melbourne allows those studying online courses to access a physical space where they can enrol, study, and interact with peers, educators and employers.
It is colourful and spread over three levels with features including a conference room, breakout rooms, a garden and study pods – whatever suits the student’s style of learning – as well as lockers and a coffee shop.
One room, known as the student experience pod, looks like an aeroplane from the outside and inside and features a “cloud light”.
It is designed to host intimate meetings or video conferences and to create video diaries.
“(The hub) needs to be a place where you feel comfortable and inspired and feel like learning,” Wall says.
“For me, it’s the emotional response you get from a space.”
Student Harriet Foley is studying a Diploma of Human Resources Management and says the Acquire Hub is fantastic.
“It really helps facilitate my learning as I don’t have internet at home,” she says.
“It brings a really lovely community feel in being not just a room full of computers or a sterile environment. You feel a lot more welcome.”
