CARLOS FLORES

creative director
Since his days as a graffiti artist Carlos has always been interested in drawing and design.  After one year of studying primary school teaching, he moved to New York to look into studying design there, but returned after a year to complete Melbourne's prestigious Brighton Bay Art, Design & Photography Program.  He then went on to complete a degree in Graphic Design at Swinburne University.

Carlos has worked in several different jobs in many industries, which has given him a deep understanding of various types of businesses.  After university Carlos spent 3 years running a firm in partnership with a friend.
In 2002 he started studio equator so he could have the creative freedom to work in different disciplines and do something meaningful and personally rewarding.

Carlos moved here from El Salvador as a child.  He loves marinating, live music and playing with his son Levi, and always brightens the studio with his infectious laugh. Carlos Flores

CARMEN ANDERYAS

interior designer

During University at Monash Caulfield Carmen spent four weeks in Italy on a student exchange program.  In her final year she attended a lecture by Carlos Flores, after which she introduced herself to him which led to her doing some work experience with studio equator.

After completing her Interior Architecture degree with honours Carmen worked for an architecture firm designing schools, then for Buro Architects designing retail, commercial and high end residential interiors before returning to work for studio equator in April 2009.

Of Egyptian heritage, Carmen is known for her "Fully ChocSick" desert, which she spoils us with now and then.  She loves getting excited about a new concept, and also does product design.  Carmen designed the beautiful coffee table in the drinks room at the studio.

JEREMY WRIGHT

graphic designer

Born & bred in Tasmania, Jeremy attended the Tasmanian School of Fine Arts in Hobart where he gained a degree in Graphic design.  After this he worked for a tourism agency, Federal Group until he moved to Victoria in October 2008 and joined the studio equator team.

Coming from Tasmania it's only natural that Jeremy loves chocolate and boutique beers.  He also loves Helvetica font and the colour magenta, and we at the studio have found he is not quite as shy as he claims to be.

MICHAEL WALBURGH

production manager
Born in South Africa, Myke came to Australia in 1980 where he explored his love of music, graphic communication, graffiti art and hip hop stepping and breaking throughout his high school years.  He then completed an apprenticeship in graphic reproduction at a printing bureau, along with a concurrent course in graphic arts at RMIT.
Myke's apprenticeship dealt mainly with old school techniques, from before computers were used in graphic design but afterwards he worked for various print houses, always choosing ones that would give him the experience with computers that his apprenticeship lacked.

Eventually deciding to focus on his love of music, Michael spent 7 years performing and touring the world with his band Nubreed.  Along with two friends, he released one album, some vinyl and several remixes and toured in countries including USA, Canada, China, Singapore, England and Hong Kong.

After Nubreed, Myke worked for a pinball business redrawing the graphics on retro machines before joining studio equator in December 2009 as Production Mangager. Myke longs for approval… of finished art and tender sets and makes sure the studio always have great music to listen to. Michael Walburgh

BENJAMIN FRETARD

interior designer
Benjamin is our very own Frenchman.  He grew up and studied in France where he completed a diploma of art & design, majoring in product and interior design.  After graduating in 2006, he worked as a product designer, design a large variety of products ranging from bottles to tombstones.

In 2007 Benjamin moved to Australia where he worked for a large event company designing exhibition stands before accepting his current position at studio equator in August 2008.  His favourite part of work at equator is the opportunity to develop new concepts.

Ben loves like a Frenchman, but eats like an Italian and drinks like an Aussie.  He is a keen squash and badminton player, and loves cheese and pasta.  Just as many women have a separate stomach for deserts, Ben has a separate stomach for cheesy pasta! Benjamin Fretard

ANGELINE HENTRI

graphic designer
Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, Angie always loved drawing and comics, but it was not until she moved to Australia in 1998 that she grasped what graphic design and visual communication was.  After winning several awards for her work in visual communication in high school, Angie knew she wanted to be a designer and completed a bachelor of multimedia design at Swinburne University, however she remained more interested in illustration and printed media than multimedia.

Angie also studied Japanese throughout high school and university, and afterwards spent nine months living in Japan to further these language skills.  Upon her return, she worked as a freelance designer for an Indonesian magazine before joining the studio equator team in October 2007.

Before starting work at equator, Angeline was very shy and scared to speak to Australians because she was unsure of her English, but she is now much more confident and loves working on her English vocabulary and learning Australian slang.  She still loves illustrating, and has the studio in stitches every day with her quirky humour. JACINTA FARRAGHER

finance & administration

Jacinta grew up on a farm in North East Victoria, but now works as our Office Manager.
After studying arts and information management & systems she worked in finance and administration before spending 3 years in Thailand volunteering in events management, fundraising and several philanthropic ventures including teaching disabled children to horse ride, working with orphans and providing food and clothing to the poor.

Jacinta returned to Australia in May 2009 and has been with studio equator since then.
She loves socialising, riding her bike to work and life in general.
She also loves it when clients pay on time.

THERESA POWLES

interior designer
Born a country girl, Theresa moved to the city to become an Interior architect.  She graduated with honours from Monash Caulfield and worked for Design Inc for two years before taking some time off to travel to Thailand, Greek Islands, Turkey and Singapore.

Theresa joined the studio equator team in December 2009, and loves finding unexpected inspiration in her work.  She also keeps the equator team updated with the kind of interesting events, exhibitions, and competitions that we love to participate in.  Theresa is sometimes known as Natasha, because we think she looks like a Russian spy. Theresa Powles

CARMEL DI SEVO

management
Carmel completed a degree in criminology, but had a passion for events and advertising.  She worked in advertising and events management for several years and also completed an advertising degree.

In 2002, Carm helped start studio equator in partnership with Carlos.  She is currently on maternity leave looking after little Levi, but still finds time to help from home.

Carm likes print management and client relations.  She also loves dancing and her mum's traditional Italian cooking.
